Trip Around Olympic Peninsula
My son, John JR and I took a three day trip around the Olympic Peninsula. We overnighted in three different campgrounds. By doing this, we were able to see all the National Park/Forest/Ocean had to offer. The first night we camped at the Navy Recreation Area. We walked along the beach and as the sun started to set, got ready to take the sunset. It was beautiful with lot of color but the wind was blowing and we almost froze our butts off. The next morning we headed up Highway 101 stopping along the way to visit some more beaches. We also came across an old abandoned shake-mill. I am always surprised how much equipment is left when a mill is shut down. On our way to the HoH Rain Forest where we planned to camped for the night, we ran upon a herd of Elk sunning themselves on the bank of the HOH River. Later we took a few photos of trees with hanging moss before the sun set. Day three saw us on the road for the Hamma Hamma River Recreation Area. We stopped in Forks for gas and Port Angeles for a hamburger. The campgound was very nice and private. The only thing wrong was the outhouse was in pretty bad shape. My son had bug problems. It's strange as they didn't bother me but sure ganged up on him. I really enjoyed the trip. It is not often when we can go out and do the Father/Son thing. The trip was 450 miles and well worth it.
