Lava Bed's National Monument
A good place to visit around June before it gets to hot, or in the fall of the year before the snow falls. To see all of the interesting points will take three or four days but if only interested in cave exploring, there are plenty right at the Ranger Station. There are over 300 known caves and lava tubes in the lava beds. The Rangers recommend a hard hat which can be bought and they have lanterns for loan. They also suggest having someone with you or letting them know where you are going in case of a problem. The campground with water and flush toliets is about one/half mile from the station. Good time to visit is during the weekdays. While I was there, had the Lava Beds all to myself.
